Pawnee City Public Schools

It was a whirlwind two days for the PC speech team. First, they competed at Elkhorn North on Friday evening, then bright and early again at Plattsmouth on Saturday. Both days were filled with talented competition, focused individual improvements, and team bonding.

Highlights included much-anticipated finals breaks for Emily and Abby, some incredible individual finishes, and watching our freshman OID continue to improve and move toward their goal of breaking into finals.

At Elkhorn, the team placed 3rd, and at Plattsmouth, they were 6th in an impressive field.

Saturday's Plattsmouth awards ended with a special surprise: two PC students were awarded in the Individual Sweepstakes awards (most individual points scored). With all three of their events breaking into finals, Tyler was third place in the individual points field, and Cael was runner-up. This is a first-time finish for any PC speakers, and if you saw how hard these seniors and their teammates have worked finding time to practice their different events between all their other commitments, you wouldn’t be surprised.

Thank you to the boosters for providing hotel accommodations, to our parents and community members who came up to watch rounds, to Tammy Hartman for always feeding us so well at every meet, and to Shannon and JW Vlcek for your tireless support and for hauling our large collection of gear all over this weekend.

Next up, some of the team travels to Weeping Water tomorrow. But for now, we rest and wait on the snow.

Congratulations to senior Morgann Friedly on her senior signing to the University of Nebraska–Lincoln! Morgann has been involved in a variety of activities, such as FFA and serving as a teacher’s aide in the preschool room. We are excited to see her major in special education and look forward to all she will accomplish. Way to go, Morgann!

Second grade is already building those career skills! Students explored the classroom classifieds in their careers special to find a classroom job they would be great at. They completed job applications explaining why they were the perfect fit and today they were awarded certificates for their hard work! Great work, second grade! We are so proud of your effort, responsibility, and future-ready thinking!

Congratulations to Mrs. Laura Bloss and Mr. Ian Osborne on being selected by their peers as our February Staff Members of the Month! Mrs. Bloss was recognized for the incredible energy, leadership, and heart she pours into everything she does. From Play Production and Speech to PBIS leadership to English instruction, she creates a calm, welcoming environment where every student feels valued and important. She goes above and beyond to work with students’ schedules, supports activities that give all kids a place to belong, and consistently brings out the very best in those she works with. Her kindness, patience, and dedication make a lasting impact on our students and staff alike. Mr. Osborne was honored for his unwavering patience, positive relationships, and steady presence in our classrooms. He has an ability to connect with students, helping create a calm, respectful learning environment. Always willing to step in wherever needed, Ian supports both students and staff with kindness, humor, and humility. His quiet leadership and dedication make it possible for others to do their jobs even better. We are so fortunate to have both of them on our team! Thank you for all you do for our students and our school community!

This application must be filled out and submitted with all required information for your child to be considered for attendance in the district’s four-year-old preschool program. You will need your child's birth certificate and updated copy of their immunization records.

Congrats to PC senior Norman McHenry on winning our February FAFSA gift card drawing! Thank you for completing your FAFSA and taking the next step toward your future. Graduation is right around the corner, keep up the great work!

Tough end to the season for the Pawnee City Indians boys basketball team. The Indians battled hard but fell to Falls City Sacred Heart Irish in the Sub-District round, bringing their season to a close.

We’re proud of the effort, heart, and dedication this team showed all season long. Thank you to our players, coaches, and fans for representing Pawnee City with pride.
