Several members of the Pawnee City Cross Country team delivered standout performances at the Hiawatha meet on September 17, with two varsity girls cutting more than two minutes off their 5K times, and three junior high runners getting medals and placing in the top 10!

Kailyn Jensen and Brook Tozer carved more than two minutes off their previous week’s time, while Tiffany Sampont decreased her time even with an ankle injury. Varsity runner Colin Fender placed 27th in a field of 79 runners.

Junior High athletes ran two miles at the Hiawatha meet. Tim Hoffman and Alex Hall turned in gritty performances in the heat and placed 5th and 6th respectively. Case Gyhra and Charlie Arnold left it all on the course and finished strong. Lisa Holthus, a seventh grader, powered through the field and took home a 9th place medal. Alana Gyhra stayed strong and finished 11th in the eighth grade field.

The Pawnee City Cross Country team has been defying the heat and pushing through to deliver great results. The team travels to Falls City on Thursday, Sept. 24.
