The Pawnee City varsity football team plays against McCool Junction on September 11 on their home field for the first time of the season. The boys, unfortunately, were defeated 0-38.
When asked what he and the other players did well in the game, Luke Hunzeker stated, "I did well in this game by staying focused and not worrying about the score of the game. I think the team as a whole did a good job of staying focused and accepting responsibility.' Luke also said, "The thing I need to improve on is making my cuts sharper and better pass coverage."
When asked the same question, Gauge Schuetz commented, "One thing I think I did well was playing multiple positions I hadn't played before. I think our team did all right. Our team needs more reps, specifically, because we are so young." Gauge also mentioned that he needs to improve at going downhill faster while playing linebacker.
When asked what the team needs to work on before the next game, Coach Brumbaugh commented, "We need to be more aggressive and attack on both sides of the field. We are young, and we like to sit back and wait for someone to come to us. We can keep working on this and get better. Even though we didn't win the game, we did some good things on offense. We need to put it together better and start putting points on the board. Takeaway: Again, the offense had some bright moments. We have to take what we did well and build on that."
Their next game is Friday, September 25, at home against Diller-Odell.
