On April 27, 2026, the Pawnee City choirs and bands perform on their Spring Concert. The concert was originally scheduled to be performed at VanHorne Park but had to be moved to the gym. "I wish we could have played at the park," commented Mrs. Veleba, "but the ground was just too wet to get everything hauled to the stage. We didn't want to tear up the grass."
Because the gym was set up for both band and choir at the same time, Mrs. Dieckgrafe and Mrs. Veleba alternated back and forth. Groups featured songs that they played and sang at contest, as well as others that they enjoyed and wanted to perform "one more time." The junior high and high school choirs sang, and students in band from grades 5-12 played.
Symanthea McDonald commented on the night, "My favorite band song was 'Night Journey' and my favorite choir song was 'The Mermaid'." The most challenging song for Sam was 'Danse Carnival', because it had hard notes and a fast tempo. She mentioned that she improved throughout the year by getting better at counting and at playing at a faster tempo.
When Riley Strehle was asked about the songs the junior high choir sang, she responded, "My favorite song was 'Seize the Day'." Riley stated that the most challenging song for her was 'I've Been Everywhere.'
The concert ended with a song played by the combined high school and junior high bands. Before they played, Mrs. Veleba recognized the seniors. (Pictured above: Cael Johnson, Madelyn "Maddy" Osborne, Larkyn Vlcek, and Layla Fetherkile. Not pictured: Morgann Friedly)
