For Yearbook 2026, I had the chance to interview Trey Marteney, a 20-year-old Pawnee City alum, who owns numerous businesses in Pawnee City. The businesses he owns are a Computer shop (Premier Tech), a Mobile hard drive shredding company (Zero Trace), a couple of Airbnbs, and, soon, a paper shredding business.
When did you start? ”My First LLC is called Hucklefish and was created in 2023. Hucklefish is my real estate company and my laundromat.
How did you start? "I started with the money I had saved up from the Army and my family. I wanted to be an entrepreneur even in high school. I just didn't know what I wanted to do. Everything I have started now never would have happened if my first job hadn't failed.”
Trey commented on that job. ”When I first got back from basic training, I attempted to be a distributor for Mission tortillas. It was my first career as a sole proprietor. I worked every day, some days from 3 AM to 9 PM. I decided that I didn't want to tie up all of my time working, so I moved back to Pawnee to start my entrepreneurial career.”
Next, Trey went on to talk about his normal day in the life. “I am currently a teacher at Head Start. I work there from around 7:30 AM- 4:30 PM. Depending on the day and time of year, after work, I go do work for my computer company or my hard drive shredding company, or, if it is spring or fall, I usually do Airbnb at my campground in DuBois. I end my day by cleaning the laundromat around 9 PM.”
Thank you, Trey Marteney, for your time and for what you do for our community.
