On Thursday, February 19, Pawnee City celebrates its high school wrestling team by having a pep rally and send-off to the state tournament. The two qualifying wrestlers were Dylan Layne and Gauge Schuetz.

When asked about the pep rally, Dylan replied, “My favorite part of the pep rally was when Coach Jake talked about our season and how much we have improved.” Gauge also mentioned that his favorite part of the pep rally was seeing the seventh-grade boys holding signs with their faces on them.

The state tournament took place in the CHI Health Center in Omaha, Nebraska. Dylan commented, “The experience at CHI was way different than any other meet because there were a lot of people, and it was way harder.”

Gauge added, “At CHI, it was a lot harder than usual because you have to go through Districts before State, which is also very difficult.”

Looking forward to next season, Gauge’s goal is to make it to CHI and place in the top three. Dylan’s goal is also to place at State and have fewer than five losses.
