On February 16, the CDE welders traveled to SCC in Lincoln to compete.
When asked what the most challenging part of the competition was, Luke Hunzeker stated, “The hardest part of the competition was welding a horizontal weld with a welder I wasn't familiar with.”
When asked how long students typically train before competing, Mrs. Stephanie Bartels replied, "I host practices and students come in as they can, depending on the other activities they are in. Realistically, FFA members get what they put in - meaning if they are dedicated, they will come in and practice, and their results at the contest will show that. However, it can be difficult to compete in a contest for the first time. For the welding contest, students are given blueprints and metal to weld exactly as specified. That can be tricky, and advisors don't know the exact blueprints that they will use."
The next FFA event is State FFA in Lincoln from March 25 through March 27.
