This year, the yearbook staff is on a journey to highlight the local businesses in our town. I had the pleasure of interviewing Courtney Kosiski from Courtney Rae Photography.
Courtney discovered her passion for photography during her junior and senior years of high school. She went on two big trips, one to Europe and the other to Washington, DC. Courtney’s mother let her take her big camera on both of these trips. She took so many pictures and loved how each of them turned out. After her trips, she decided to start taking pictures for school events and doing small sessions for her friends.
Courtney officially started her business in 2008. When asked what her favorite thing about her job was, she replied, “I love the freedom that comes with owning my own business.”
A typical photo session takes a lot more prep work than actually taking the photos. Making sure the batteries are charged, lenses are clean, and scouting for locations all add to the prep work as well. The duration of the session depends on the ages and people involved. Family sessions are usually the fastest, whereas newborns and wedding sessions typically take the longest.
The editing process also depends on the type of session. A family session that is all taken in one place doesn’t take as long to edit as a wedding session. This is because of the lighting in places where the pictures are taken.
Thank you so much to Courtney, with Courtney Rae Photography, for taking the time to let me interview her.
