On January 28, the Pawnee City High School band members attend the Conference Band Clinic at EMF in Friend, NE. All 10 schools in Pioneer Conference attended the clinic this year. The Symphonic Band was led by five of the conference directors, the Wind Ensemble was led by clinician Jamie Switzer; and the Percussion Ensemble was directed by the Sterling director Derrick Gossard.
When the Symphonic Band members were asked about their favorite song that day, Layla Fetherkile, Kailey Hartman, and Symanthea McDonald said they liked “To Conquer the Kraken.” The Wind Ensemble members didn't agree on their favorite songs; Madelyn Osborne said that her favorite was "Squirrel Chase," but Justin Baehr preferred "Beetlejuice."
Most of the students enjoyed playing in the larger band; however, Layla said, “I think playing with a bigger band has some good and bad qualities. I thought it was hard to hear what tempo to be on, but it was cool how loud we were.”
The band’s next performance will be the MUDECAS Contest on March 30.
