On Tuesday, January 12, the girl's basketball team travels to the Beatrice Middle School Gym to play Meridian in the first round of the annual MUDECAS tournament. The final score was 51-12, with the Indians earning another win towards their season. Leading the team in scoring this game was Kinsley Benson with 11 points, followed by Emalyse Gottula with 10, and Haylee Plager with eight.
On Thursday that week, the team traveled back to Beatrice to compete against the Diller-Odell Griffins in the second round of the tournament. In the neck-and-neck game, the Indians took the victory with a score of 27-25. Kinsley Benson and Taelyn Blecha both scored six points, followed by Emalyse Gottula with five. Next, the Lady Indians went on to play in the championship game.
On Friday night, Pawnee City plays the EMF Bobcats for first place in the tournament. Kinsley Benson posted 11 points, followed by Madelyn Osborne with six. The final score was 24-39, and the Indians took home the runner-up trophy. As for the all-tournament B-division awards, Haylee Plager received Honorable Mention, and Kinsley Benson and Emalyse Gottula both received First-Team awards.
After the tournament, the team’s record is now 7-7. The next upcoming game will be played in their home gym against the Falls City Tigers on Thursday, January 29. That night, we will recognize the players and the seniors with their parents.
