This year, we’re highlighting local businesses in our community, and I had the chance to learn more about Sue Pope and her longtime flower shop. Sue has been in business for a while. She started in Table Rock in 1996, expanded to Humboldt in 2001, and opened her Pawnee location in 2007.

Sue said she was inspired to start the business because she’s always loved flowers and enjoys working with the public. She also shared that owning a business comes with numerous challenges, especially trying to determine what customers want, when to fulfill their orders, and how much to produce.

The most popular flowers she sells are roses, especially red ones, such as the Red Freedom variety.

Looking ahead, Sue’s goal for the next year is to sell the business and retire. Her advice for anyone starting a business is to stay consistent: maintain regular hours, work diligently, and always prioritize your customers' needs.

Thank you, Sue, at Creative Thoughts, for taking the time out of your day to speak with me.
