This semester while searching on the web, I came across a unique technique that looked like something fun to do. It’s a project that no one has done in class before.

The season has finally come to end, the wrestling season that is. The 2011-2012 HTRS/Pawnee City wrestling team finished their season with a Dual record of 2-4 and the best tournament finish of 6th place in the Malcolm Clipper Invite.

Save a Life! Give Blood



What does it take to save a life? You can be a surgeon, an organ donor, an EMT, or you could be an ordinary high school student or community member and saving a life could mean giving one pint of blood. Giving blood is so easy and it only takes about an hour of your time, the time needed to save a life.

With his charismatic attitude and a passion for leading, Aaron Davis taught many schools what being a leader meant. Playing at the University of Nebraska, Lincoln, he knew first hand how one’s decisions could affect another. For many students, this message was easy to relate to, because he knew how we act and how easy it is to be pulled into the wrong crowd.

Lady Indian’s Basketball Wrap Up



Even though the Pawnee City Lady Indians finished the season 7 -17, they had one of the biggest achievements of the season, knocking off top ranked Fall City Sacred Heart in the Pioneer Conference tournament. The Lady Indians also won the HTRS Holiday Tournament giving them their first wins of the season.

The Pawnee City Show Stoppers are once again selling their “Singing Valentines”. The group has been doing this fundraiser ever since the group was started. They go around the town of Pawnee City delivering bags of candy or flowers, depending on the preference of the buyer, and singing a love song to each individual.

You Can Be a Lifesaver By Learning CPR!



For several years Mr. Strong has had the 9th grade health class learn CPR. It’s a skill the students need to learn to save someone’s life. Brandon Willey and Heidi Hinrichsen are part of the Pawnee County Ambulance and EMT squad, and they volunteer their time to instruct the freshman on First Aid, and teach them how to do the basics of CPR. Brandon and Heidi show the students the proper ways of CPR.

Project Response



Student Council is engaging in a few different projects for charity this year. One of the projects is called Project Response. Project Response Inc. is a non-profit crisis center that collects basic household items for people in need.

to everyone who donated coats, hats, etc. for the Student Council Coat drive.

We are also collecting items for Project Response, this is a non-profit crisis center that provides support and advocacy to victums of domestic violence, sexual assault, and other related issues.  The donated items serve people in Johnson, Nemaha, Otoe, Pawnee, and Richardson counties.

Blake Moser is your typical outdoorsman. He loves to hunt, fish, and participate in trap shooting. Blake also has a love for farming and milking his dairy cows. Another one of Blake’s interest is going to cattle auctions.

The boys are doing a great job this year. Their record right now is 4-0. They defeated Diller-Odell (50-22), Frankfort (44-36), Tri County (77-46), and Craig/Fairfax (82-18).

Born in Kettering Ohio, Lexie Garner has spent her childhood here in Pawnee City. Lexie and her mom, Kathy, moved here when Lexie was only five years old. They moved her because Lexie’s aunt, Sharon, lived here. To this day, Sharon is a big part in her life.

Erik Osborne, also known as Oz, lives with a pretty big family of six. He has two younger brothers Ian and Simon, and a baby sister Maddie. Jane and Glenn Osborne are his parents. Last Tuesday, the FFA land judging group traveled to Beatrice to participate in the District Land Judging Contest.

What is land judging? Land Judging is a FFA event where students evaluate certain areas of land and place those areas into Land Capability Classes.

Pawnee City Junior High vs. HTRS



On September 29, 2011, the Junior High football team played HTRS. HTRS has a physical and athletic football team this year and they fought hard starting at opening kickoff. Our boys were the first team to strike in the game with a 35-yard pass from Voy Pearson to Alex Menninga.

Pawnee City Junior High vs. Lewiston Junior High



The PC Junior High football team started the season off with a victory against Lewiston on Friday September 16. The final score was an amazing 38 to 0. They did great for their first game of the season.

“Girls Just Wanna Have Fun.”



Starting this year there is a new girls only fitness class. This class is taught by Tami Gaede. The overall goals of this class are to promote health and fitness to their everyday livings. Miss Gaede said that one of her goals is “to teach them how to continue on with physical fitness after they have left high school.”

Blessings In A Bag



13 million children live in households that experience hunger or the risk of hunger. This represents more than one in ten households in the US. This statistic caught the eye of city member Marie Glenn and the Ministerial Association when they realized that this hits close to home. Marie Glenn received a call from the Food Bank of Lincoln, asking if she could please sponsor this project called, Blessings in a Bag.

On Wednesday, September 28, Keith Becker came to PCHS not only for an assembly during the day with the students, but also for a public assembly that evening at 7pm. The Todd Becker Foundation was created following the death of an 18 year old high school student, Todd Becker, in the spring of 2005..

On Thursday, September 29, the junior class at Pawnee City School got an opportunity to visit UNO and Peru State College.
The first stop was to UNO, although this campus was further away from home and a lot bigger than Peru, it came with a lot of advantages. For instance, Omaha is a large city, and UNO is located in a good spot.
