How Did They Duet?

By Alyssa Cline, Junior

Duet speech is when two students work together to portray a story.  Props are also allowed in this category, which is why duet speeches typically incorporate at least a table or a couple of chairs.  The story the two competitors portray could have a variety of themes. This causes some duets to be humorous, whilst others might have a more serious tone.

Are Cats Taking Over the World?

by Alyssa Cline, Junior

Entertainment speech is a category that requires you to write your own script.  Kids are allowed to embrace their creativity and write up to an eight minute monologue over a topic of their choosing.  Entertainment speech is similar to informative in the sense that they both use visual aids.  Only, as one might assume, the entertainment props are typically more bizarre.  For example, sophomore, Macey Gyhra, uses catnip, a cat puppet and even the horn of a unicorn.

Support the Red Cross, Help Patients by Giving Blood

by Shayla Wissler, Senior
Across the country, the American Red Cross is reminding communities that March is Red Cross Month. In the U.S., nearly 5 million patients need blood transfusions every year. By making an appointment to give blood this month, eligible donors can help the Red Cross meet patient needs.
March was initially declared Red Cross Month in 1943, when then-President Franklin Roosevelt reminded Americans the Red Cross is committed to providing blood products, disaster relief and emergency social services across the U.S. and internationally.
Pawnee City High School will be having their annual blood drive on Thursday, March 27th at the United Methodist Church Poteet Hall. To make an appointment call 402-852-2988 or email Mary Moser at mmoser@pawneecityschool.net.
Not only are you helping save a life, you are helping the local high school students earn scholarships.

The Lone Speecher

By Alyssa Cline, Junior

Most speech kids have time to memorize their scripts and practice them weeks before a meet.  Imagine what it would be like for a student who only has one hour to write their speech before presenting.  Now, you may think this sounds like a nightmare, but this dream is actually reality for some students.
