Pawnee Speech Team Brings Their Best to State
By Alexa Cline, Senior
Several Pawnee City High School students have doubled their success this school year by making it to state in two of their academic activities. Six members of the State Champion Play Production cast have also placed at this year’s State Speech contest. State Speech was held in Kearney, NE on March 27, 2015.
Hard work has proved to pay off yet again for senior Hannah Davis, who took the title as the C2 State Champion in Serious. Her first place has earned her a spot at Nationals with her speech, The Amish Project. In her performance, Hannah puts those acting skills she perfected in Nora’s Lost, to the test. The senior takes her audience on a suspenseful journey through the minds of a school shooter, his wife, and his young victims.
Taking those in attendance on a slightly more bizarre journey was Carly Hunzeker, Macey Gyhra, Abby Mathewson, Kellen Habegger, and Steven Bruns who placed second in OID. These five students breathed some new life into the old classic Alice in Wonderland, portraying crowd favorites such as the Mad Hatter and the Chesire Cat. Success for the OID’s senior member, Carly Hunzeker, didn’t end there. She went on to place sixth in Informative. Carly remarked “I was very fortunate to have awesome teammates in both speech and one-act and an even better coach to help me place at state multiple times this year.“
