Hard Work and Improvements

    The Pawnee City Junior High girls basketball team played the JCC Thunderbirds at home February 23 the A team defeated JCC 17 to 11 the B team lost to JCC 5-8.
    Coach Pierce states, “ The team has improved on their understanding of the game. Player relationship, passing, and driving toward the hoop has all improved.” At halftime the Lady Indians led 10 to 5. In the second half the girls improved their rebounding and free throw shooting to win by 6.
    The B team was competitive but did not take a lot of shots. Michelle Wenzl hit a 3 pointer in the first half then in the fourth quarter she added two more points to the scoreboard to end the game with a final score of 5.The strategies going into the JCC game was to execute on offense, pass the ball to keep the defense moving and then taking the open shot. Coach Pierce says, “ The area she would like to have improved on during the JCC game would be not to force the ball inside and to take what defense is giving you.
