Two Teams From Pawnee City Lego League Advance To The State Tournament
By McKenzie Goetsch, Sophomore
Pawnee City advanced two teams to State by competing in the Qualifier Lego League competition. On January 17th, the Pink Pumas: Sam Brown, Riley Kobza, Olivia Gottula, Tristen Bradbury, Austin Branch, and Madison Branek, Lego Lava League: Jacob Lytle, Graham Moore, Kaden Lang, Kaleb Vertrovsky, Reyana Tegtmeier, and Sarra Parrott and the Mashed Potatoes: Colby Robinson, Marcus Gray, Tammy Hestermann, Lauren Moser, Shelby Wilcox, Rachael Ray, Kylie Kalen, and Eliza Hunzeker competed at the Nebraska City Middle School against 24 teams.
This year’s theme was ‘World Class’, which made the participants think about ‘how can we improve the way someone learns?’ The teams competed in three different aspects; the project, robot design and the core values. The project has the participants researching a topic, and they come up with a solution to improve learning. The robot has the teams programming a lego robot to perform tasks on the course. The core values have students show how working together, solving problems, and facing challenges is done together for the good of the team. The Pink Pumas finished 2nd overall at the NC Qualifier.
Before awards, the kids participated in a huge dance party. It wasn’t just the kids; judges, teams, and volunteers danced. “It was so much fun! We made loads of friends and played games, like the Oreo challenge on “A Minute To Win It”. It was a lot of fun, and I can’t wait to participate again next year!” Tristen Bradbury said.
The Pink Pumas and the Lego Lava League will be competing at the state competition on Saturday, February 21st, at the SAC Air Museum near Ashland, Nebraska.
