Sitting in Style
By Jill Nightingale, Junior
Did you notice the new chairs at the basketball game last week? This is just one of the many improvement projects that the Pawnee Athletic Booster Club has completed this year. After raising funds to complete and fill the new fitness room with equipment, the Pawnee City Athletic Boosters are continuing to contribute to the athletic programs in the school. This school year the Athletic Boosters have paid for an upgrade to the sound system at the football field and track. They have also paid for the new Volleyball standard pads and have helped pay for the new scorer’s table. Both of these proudly display the Pawnee City Indians name on them. To top it off they have purchased 12 team chairs to be used during basketball and volleyball games. This way, the spectators can walk behind the teams rather than in front of the teams.
Some other projects that they would like to do this year is to help pay for the repainting of the gym and concession stand area as well as new record boards. They would also like to have a sign for the exterior of the Fitness Center.
When asking Suzanne Borcher where the funding comes from she said “ The Fitness Center was started with generous donation from the Pawnee City Educational Foundation. We also had other donations from the Chamber and the Economic Development Corporation. We also have a membership drive each fall which grows every year. The Athletic Booster Club hosts a tailgate party at the first football game and during basketball season the Booster Club has a halftime shooting contest were they have the $1 shot game where you can shoot a 3point shot or free throw to win prizes.”
What are the goals of the booster club? The goal of the Athletic Booster Club is to continue to fund things that the school otherwise cannot fund. They want to support our athletic teams in any way that they can.
